Looking back to earlier in the year, at CPNAG’s AGM, mentioned in an earlier post, back in May, we had a presentation from Gerry Tissier of the charity ecoACTIVE, and project manager of the Hackney Buzzline. Full details of that talk are in the earlier post.

In that talk, Gerry mentioned various projects connected with the Buzzline, which help to link up the larger park meadows and not only encourage wildlife diversity but also foster community involvement and wellbeing, environmental education, and the active appreciation of nature.

One such project was going to be spoken about at the AGM by Alice Roberts, in the creation of which she has been instrumental. However, on the evening, Alice was not able to make it to the meeting. So, we visited Alice and the project later in the year.

This is the Nightingale Estate Parklet, on the North East corner of Nightingale Estate, shown here in the accompanying photographs taken during the visit. This project is a great example of community involvement and has a lovely feel to it – a little space to be quiet and reflect – yes, even with the buses and traffic going past!!! Its creation has been supported with planting by Nightingale School.

Additionally, included in the photographs, just next to the parklet, displayed on a wall, are three mosaics, made by the Hackney Mosaic Project. Wandering around Hackney, and beyond, you’ll find other examples of their fabulous work.
